We’re sorry to say that the 2026 Abergavenny Writing Festival is postponed.In a very competitive round with many wonderful events and projects competing for Arts Council Wales / Lottery funding we were not successful this time. It’s been a tough decision to make and we appreciate all the offers of support we have had. But without full funding we can not honour our commitment to pay creative practitioners for their expertise and keep prices low to ensure accessibility for all.We plan to take some time to evaluate the future of the Festival and funding options, then very much hope to be back. With huge thanks for all the support we’ve received over the years from Arts Council Wales, National Lottery, Abergavenny Town Council, Christie Residential, Abergavenny Rotary Club, Kings Arms, Melville Centre for the Arts, Abergavenny Library and many more. Attention anyone who's been thinking about sending in poetry for our Summer issue 📣Over the weekend we hit 300 submissions, which means we're *just* over halfway towards our 550 submissions cap for poetry. We've introduced this cap to keep the submissions process as positive an experience as possible, for both writers and staff. Limiting the number of poems we read means that our Editor can give each submission the time it deserves and has time to focus on making each issue the very best it can be.Once our poetry portal hits 550 it will automatically close, which may be before the window closes on 28 February. There is no cap on submissions for features though, so you can still submit them right up until the deadline. poetrywales.co.uk/submissions-are-open-for-summer-2026/Don't forget you can also submit poems to the Poetry Wales Award until 16 February if you're worried about missing out.
